Who we are
Picton Family Medical Centre is a fully accredited practice. We offer a wide of range of services for our patients. We have a large and loyal patient base and we are always happy to see new patients. Our practice is modern, full appreciated, family orientated, well respected for teaching of the next generation of general practitioners. Picton Family Medical Centre is a fully accredited practice with 6 permanent Doctors, 3 GP Registrars, 3 Registered Nurses, 1 Paediatrician, 1 Registered Midwife and 4 administration staff.
We strive to be part of the community. We are our community’s ‘medical home’. We provide outstanding care at all stages of life in a friendly and welcoming environment, with an emphasis on quality and education.
You can book your appointment with us in 3 ways. The easiest way would be to use the use the link through our website, HotDoc app (free), or call our practice on 4677 0533. Our wonderful reception staff will make every effort to accommodate your preferred appointment time with your usual doctor. Emergencies will always be given priority. If there is any unforeseen delay, our reception staff will always attempt to contact you and let your know. A standard appointment is 15 minutes in duration, and long appointments are 30 minutes n duration. Longer appointments may be required for new patients, 6 week postnatal check, 6 week baby check, mental health consultations and skin excisions. You can let our reception staff know if you may require one of these appointments so that a longer appointment time can be allocated to you.
Fees and Billing
For all appointments between the hours of 8am – 6pm all patients with a valid Medicare card, your consultation will be bulk billed. From 7am – 8am there is an out of pocket fee of $26.00 (fee $75.00, rebate $49.00) for a standard consultation. Fees may also apply for certain procedures. Please discuss this with your treating Doctor or our receptionist.
Interpreter Service: Please do not hesitate to let us know if you or any family member require access to interpreter services, we can organise this for you. Communication Policy: During consultations, doctors do not take telephone calls from patients, unless it is an urgent medical situation. Please remember that the most appropriate way to discuss your test results, to obtain a referral, or a prescription, is to make an appointment with one of our doctors. Confidentiality: Our practice maintains the security of your personal health information at all times. Your medical record is a confidential document and is only available to authorised members of staff. Workcover: Workcover charges may be covered by your employers Workcover insurance. However this is not always the case, and depends on whether your claim has been accepted. If you do not have a claim number you will be required to pay your account at the time of consultation, you can then claim it later through your employer (once your claim has been accepted).
WE ARE A TRAINING PRACTICE
At Picton Family Medical Centre, our senior doctors mentor GP registrars completing their requirements for the Fellowship of the Royal Australian College of General Practitioners (FRACGP). GP registrars are fully trained doctors who have completed many years of university and hospital training and have decided to specialise in General Practice. As part of their final training, they work in selected accredited general practices. PFMC has become a very sought after practice for training due to outstanding support they receive, and due to the wonderful patients that embrace our training environment. We also believe that it is a constructive way for our practice to contribute to the development of general practice in the Wollondilly area and beyond. Many of our senior doctors were once GP trainees at the practice, and have decided to come back to work in Wollondilly, having fallen in love with the practice and the community. To become an accredited training facility, practices are required to meet specific requirements set out through the Royal Australian College of General Practitioners (RACGP). This training is obtained through our training provider GP Synergy.
