Our General Practitioners
Dr Anna Pham
Practice PrincipalQualifications: BSc(Med)MBBS(UNSW), FRACGP. Conjoint senior lecturer (UWS)
Interests: Antenatal shared care, peadiatrics, adolescent mental health, contraception and family planning, skin cancer removals, caring for the elderly. Travel medicine. Cosmetic Medicine.
Dr Anna Pham graduated from the University of NSW in 2001. She has been working at PFMC since it first opened in 2006, and took over ownership of the practice in January 2007. Dr Anna first arrived in Australia in 1983 at the age of 7. She is from a working class family, and lived through the challenges of being poor, a refugee, and English as second language.
She is the first in her family to enter and complete university. Her upbringing has taught her resilience, the value of hard work, family, education, future planning, and most importantly, gratitude.
She chose medicine as a career choice for 2 reasons. Dr Anna wanted to give back to the community, to serve people, and to show gratitude through serving others. Secondly, she is a “people advocate”. She believes in standing up for those, who cannot stand up for themselves. If she didn’t make it into medicine, Dr Anna would have studied law.
Dr Abdalla Hakam
General PractitionerQualifications: MBBS (Cairo) 1979
Interests: Orthopedics. Dermatology, skin cancer removal.
Dr Hakam has been working at PFMC since 2007. He is a much sought after GP with a large loyal patient base.
He is a kind, patient, and warm doctor who enjoys all types of sports, with his favourite sport being soccer. He also enjoys travelling with his family.
Did you know, that in 1989, Dr Hakam survived a horrific aeroplane crash over Libya!
Dr Daniel Buckingham
General PractitionerQualifications: MBBS (Western Sydney); BSocSc; Dip Child Health
Interests: Lifestyle medicine and chronic disease management, Paediatric Health, Men’s Health, Mental Health.
Dan graduated from MBBS at Western Sydney University in 2014. He had previously completed a Bachelor of Social Science (distinction) at Western Sydney University. He completed his undergraduate years at Wollongong hospital and an additional year in Emergency and Intensive Care.
Currently a GP Registrar, he hopes to complete his training while working at PFMC and remain working in this region long term.
Dan has a strong interest in paediatric care, lifestyle medicine and mental health. He completed a Diploma in Child Health in 2017.
His spare time is spent with his beautiful wife Kristen and 2 young children.
Dr Craig Mattern
General PractitionerQualifications: MBBS, FRACGP, DAME
Interests: Musculoskeletal and Sports Medicine, Medical Education, Men’s health, Mental Health, Military Medicine.
Dr Craig Mattern completed his training as the first graduating cohort from Western Sydney University School of Medicine in 2011.
He completed his internship and residency and St George and Sutherland Hospitals and was first introduced to PFMC as a hospital doctor on rotation in 2013. He was then posted to Brisbane where he completed his FRACGP in 2016.
He is passionate about sports medicine and is currently completing a PostGraduate Diploma in Sports and Exercise Medicine through the University of Otago. He is a current serving full-time member of the Australian Army employed as a Medical Officer and is the currently appointed team doctor for the Men and Women’s Australian Army and combined ADF Rugby League teams. He is also a Designated Aviation Medical Examiner and can complete Pilot medicals.
He has a young family with his baby daughter Arabella a popular PFMC member!
Dr Georgia Carins
General PractitionerQualifications: FRACGP, MBBS (U.Syd), DCH, BApp.Sc (Physiotherapy)
Interests: women’s health, child health/paediatrics, musculoskeletal medicine, travel medicine, mental health, chronic disease, aged care.
Prior to graduating from medicine at the University of Sydney in 2010, Georgia studied and worked as a physiotherapist in rehabilitation for years. As a junior doctor Georgia worked in both Wollongong and Darwin where she particularly enjoyed Emergency medicine. She then embarked on general practice training working in a broad range of general practice settings across Sydney.
Georgia a enjoys the diversity general practice offers and the opportunity it offers to work collaboratively with patients in managing their long term health needs. In 2015 Georgia completed a diploma of Child Health.
Outside of work Georgia has a young family keeping her busy. She likes camping with her children,picnics and podcasts.
Dr Len Attebo
Qualifications: MBBS UNSW 1988, Graduate Cert. Medicine (Metabolic Health) USYD 2018.
Interests: Preventative lifestyle medicine and chronic disease management, Family Medicine, Cosmetic Medicine.
Lena graduated from the University of New South Wales in 1988 and has been practicing for 32 years. She has been working at St Vincent’s Clinic doing health assessments for the past 13 years. In her practice, she developed a passion for preventative health medicine for those with and without chronic illness, and as such pursued further education and has become a Board Certified Lifestyle Medicine Physician. She has assisted a reconstructive plastic surgeon for more than 10 years, mainly in the field of reconstruction after breast cancer, and worked in community pediatrics at Hornsby Childhood Health Centre.
Lena first arrived in Australia from Sweden in 1978 at the age of 15, after spending 6 years in South Africa where she started school. Her father is a mechanical engineer, bringing his family all over this world with him.
Lena has 3 grown children and two young puppies and a partner with a keen interest in horses. She has a blended family with her partner, and Sunday Roasts are held dear. Lena is a caring, empathetic and considerate practitioner who enjoys time with her family and puppies, the great outdoors, sport, and a good book.
Dr Gemma Carey
Qualifications: MBChB with Honours, BSC (Medical Biochmeistry) with Honours
Interests; mental health, nutrition and weight loss counselling, preventative medicine
Dr Gemma Carey is originally from London and moved to Australia 5 years ago after completing her medical degree, internship and residency in the UK. Since arriving in Australia she has worked as a resident at Westmead and St George‘s Hospital. Gemma has completed her first year of GP training and is enjoying building relationships with her patients. In her spare time she loves to get out and explore the beautiful landscapes that Australia has to offer.
Dr Sarika Rane
Qualifications: MBBS, DGO
Dr Sarika Rane received her MBBS qualification in 2007 from Nagpur, and post-graduate specialisation (Diploma in Obstetrics and Gynaecology) in 2011 from Mumbai, India.
Since emigrating to Australia with her family in 2011, she has spent almost 8 years working at Campbelltown and Bankstown Hospitals mostly in O&G department as well as in the Emergency Department.
She has also lived and worked in New Zealand at Nelson Hospital Psychiatry Department, at Bombay Port Trust Hospital in Mumbai, India and as a GP at a private practice in Goulburn NSW Australia.
Sarika has a beautiful little toddler and has resided in Macarthur for the last 8 years.
Sydney Southwest community has been close to her heart and has become an extended family for her. Sarika considers it a privilege to be a part of Picton Family Medical Centre.
She is looking forward to getting to know her patients and grateful that she will be able to help and contribute to our community.
